Independence Bank and Moses Basket Community Partnership Award

In Kentucky, FHLB’s Community Partnership Award was awarded to Independence Bank for their continued work with the Moses Basket of Mayfield, a nonprofit organization dedicated to easing the transitions of children entering new homes as the result of foster or relative care placement. This award, which includes a grant of $5,000, recognizes Independence Bank’s continued partnership with the Moses Basket.

Emmy West, an employee of Independence Bank and a dedicated Moses Basket volunteer shared her perspective at the award ceremony. "They understand the challenges and the uncertainties that come with welcoming a child into a new home, and they strive to provide the necessary materials and financial support to alleviate some of the burdens.”

“As a volunteer, I witnessed their tireless efforts to improve the lives of these vulnerable children and families. It has been truly inspiring," she noted.

Brooke Smith, Government Relations Officer, FHLB Cincinnati, commended Independence Bank's consistent support. "We prioritize banks who submit organizations that they're involved with. Perhaps they sit on the board, volunteer and are financial supporters. Clearly, Independence Bank is excelling here,” she remarked, acknowledging the important role that financial institutions play in their communities.

Founded in 2017, the Moses Basket has grown to become an important community resource, providing clothing, necessities and supplies. Last year alone, they filled 314 baskets across 11 counties in western Kentucky helping meet the needs of those welcoming children through foster or relative care.

The presentation in Mayfield marked not only an acknowledgment of the impactful work of the Moses Basket but also a celebration of the powerful partnerships that enable positive change within communities. The grant of $5,000 will bolster The Moses Basket's mission and further brighten the lives of children and families embarking on new beginnings in western Kentucky.
