Gloria’s Place Creates New Beginnings
A former parking lot in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood has been transformed into Gloria’s Place, a new 44-unit permanent supportive housing community for individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness. The four-story development features studio and one-bedroom apartments, community gathering spaces, case management offices and 24-hour supportive services.
FHLB Cincinnati supported construction of the project through a $900,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant awarded to member Stock Yards Bank & Trust Company for the benefit of Over-the-Rhine Community Housing (OTRCH).
Jacqueline Hull, a formerly homeless individual who now lives at another OTRCH development, spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“To me, permanent supportive housing means having a place where I can grow, feel safe and build a better life,” said Hull.
The project is partially modeled after the success of Jimmy Heath House, a 25-unit permanent supportive housing development that revitalized five historic, formerly vacant buildings in Over-the-Rhine. Also developed by OTRCH and supported by FHLB’s AHP funds, the property has provided permanent housing and supportive services to individuals who have experienced homelessness for more than a decade.
Since 1990, FHLB Cincinnati has disbursed grants totaling $745 million in support of affordable housing in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and beyond through the Affordable Housing Program.
