Urban Institute Study Highlights National Impact of the Federal Home Loan Bank System
A new Urban Institute study highlights the broad national impact of the Federal Home Loan Bank System (FHLBanks), demonstrating how its financial tools and housing and community investment programs translate into real-world outcomes. The study found that between 2015 and 2024, the FHLBanks deployed $147.2 billion across its programs and tools, generating an estimated $47 billion in direct economic impact under base-case assumptions.
Earlier research by the Urban Institute explored how FHLBank liquidity helps strengthen financial stability and supports increased lending capacity among member institutions.
